New games, more sports in Atlantic City
By Judy Colbert, Expedia.com Contributor
There's more to do in Atlantic City than gamble at the Sands or gambol on the sand: You can take in a free jazz concert, watch a minor league baseball game, or, starting this fall, catch a hockey game.
Cool down with an iced rink
Known for its 12 casinos, headline entertainers, boardwalk, salt-water taffy, and the Miss America Pageant, this resort town is also home to the Atlantic City Surf baseball team, member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
Ticket prices at The Sandcastle stadium—a small park seating 5,900—range from $3 to $12. The last home game this year is September 16 against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
If you come to town after September, you'll still be able to get your pro-sports fix at Boardwalk Hall, where an as-yet-unnamed East Coast Hockey League team will begin play in October.
If the action on the beach and in the casinos is too hot, you can cool off at the Flyers Skate Zone, a public ice-skating rink adjacent to the Sandcastle. Open skating sessions are daily from 1 to 3 PM and Friday and Saturday evenings from 8 to 10 PM.
For a change of pace, don't miss the free "Sunset Jazz on the Beach" and "Arts in the Alley" on Thursday evenings.
